Thailand extradites owner of Myanmar scam city to China
Thailand has extradited She Zhijiang, a key figure in South East Asia’s cybercrime networks, to China. She is known as the owner of a so-called “scam city” in Myanmar, a sprawling hub allegedly used to carry out large-scale online fraud operations targeting victims across the region and beyond.
Authorities say She Zhijiang played a central role in organizing and profiting from cyber scams, including financial fraud and romance scams, which have affected thousands of victims worldwide. The extradition is part of an ongoing effort to crack down on cross-border cybercrime, with regional cooperation between China, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian countries proving crucial.
Chinese officials welcomed the extradition, emphasizing that She Zhijiang will face prosecution under Chinese law for her alleged crimes. Law enforcement agencies in the region have also warned that similar cybercrime networks remain under investigation, highlighting the persistent threat posed by organized online fraud operations in Southeast Asia.
